GENERAL
INFORMATION
The founding of the Ragtime For Tulsa Foundation in
February 1997 coincided with both the 100th anniversary
of published ragtime music and the 100th anniversary of
the City of Tulsa. Since then, the Foundation has
sponsored concerts, presented ragtime music programs in
Tulsa area schools, and increased public awareness and
interest in American syncopated music from the time of
Abraham Lincoln to ragtime music of the 1990's.
GOALS
The goals of the Ragtime For Tulsa Foundation are to:
- Make professional live ragtime performances available
to Tulsa area audiences.
- Increase public appreciation and awareness of
America's ragtime heritage.
- Encourage local classically trained pianists to
perfect their ragtime skills and participate in
concerts, recitals and master classes.
- Provide ragtime performances for Tulsa area schools.
- Encourage Tulsa area piano instructors to teach
ragtime to their students.
The Foundation was an official participant in Tulsa's
100th Anniversary Celebration and is a member of the
Tulsa Arts & Humanities Council and has received
support from the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Tulsa
Performing Arts Center Trust, and the National
Endowment for the Arts.
